Sweets. You love them, I love them. The old adage of “you scream, I scream, we all scream for…”, well you get it. A local bakery is certainly making themselves known as I see them recommended time and time again in all my most visited Facebook groups. With that much attention online I thought I’d join in and spotlight them in my blog.
I reached out to Muriel from Muriel’s Cakes and Cookies and asked if she wouldn’t mind giving me a quick interview. I have personally patronized this local bakery myself over the last few years and have always had the best experience. From cakes to cookies and cookie-cakes, this woman is full of surprises and amazing talent.
Let’s start at the beginning.
Q: What’s your name and how long have you been a local bakery?
A: My name is Muriel and I started this business almost three years ago.
Q: In three short years, you’ve come a long way! I see you all over Facebook. Why did you start this business?
A: I’ve always had a passion for baking and a desire to own a bakery but it really started once I had children. They wanted fun cakes to celebrate. Once I started working on my children’s cakes, friends started requesting cakes and so it began.
Q: What is your favorite thing about what you do? Also; what is the least favorite?
A: The love and happiness that celebration and fellowship bring to an event. I hate having to turn away customers when I am booked.
As Muriel and I talked a bit more about her bakery, I found out that she also does wedding cakes, adult birthday cakes or cookies, and loves a chance to do a theme or idea she hasn’t done before. While she truly enjoys what she does, she admits that it’s hard balancing her schedule with enough time for her family and the business.
Want to order but have dietary restrictions? Muriel offers dairy-free, nut-free, gluten-free, sugar-free, and vegan options! She’s got you covered, but you need to order at least 4 weeks in advance to make sure you have a spot on her calendar.
Be sure you look over her flavor list carefully, when in doubt you can order her personal favorites: carrot cake or german chocolate. YUM! Need inspiration? Check out a few more examples of her incredible work below.
